Kiki quickly becomes well-liked LGBTQ destination
After a New Year’s Eve soft opening, Kiki has become one of the most popular LGBTQ destinations in Washington, D.C.
The two-floor bar takes over the territory vacated by Velvet Lounge and Dodge City on the block of U Street. Both closed during the pandemic. The locale is directly adjacent to another gay prevent, Dirty Goose.
Owner and gay man Keaton Fedak, a general manager at Grimy Goose, noticed that these two next-door bars had gone dark during the pandemic, and met with the owners of the two buildings, who are cousins. Plans adv developed to operate both buildings to craft an expansive, interconnected, inclusive cosmos to transform the city’s gay prevent landscape.
Fedak called the bar “Kiki” both after himself (it’s a nickname) and for its connection with the LGBTQ community. “The synonyms wasn’t invented by the Scissor Sisters song,” he explains. “It’s been an important concept in the community for decades.”

As an openly lgbtq+ man and member of the LGBT community, I will happily admit that life throws very few challenges my way, especially in comparison to the trials the martyrs and ones who fought against social injustice faced before me.
It is because of the bravery of those people, that I know that I will not be discriminated against in the workplace, in the housing market, I can unite whomever I fall in treasure with, I can start a family with that man, I can live a joyous, content and conventional life.
It is not only gay or bisexual people who have seen massive strides in equality. Transgender and gender non-binary people have seen gender neutrality being widely adopted in more liberal environments. Many universities and LGBT venues now provide gender-neutral bathrooms.
