Scotty and Mal &#; Mein Hosts!

Scotty and Mal own Scotty & Mal&#;s Cocktail and Lounge Lock in Wellington. They&#;ve been out for decades and so have an appealing historical perspective on what makes Modern Zealand LGBT kind. For the first of our interviews with our trusted LGBT locals,  I sat down with Mal for a chat to understand more.

How is Wellington for LGBT people?

Wellington is probably the best city in the country for LGBT people. Cuba Street, where our bar is located, is famous for being bohemian, hippie, a little favor the Castro in San Francisco on a much smaller scale. Men can walk down the street arm and arm and no one bats an eyelid. Gay people are integrated everywhere. Even the flamboyant queens are in various bars in Wellington, not just our bar.

Are you out in your daily life?

Queer nightlife in Wellington

Wellington’s city centre is renowned for its thriving café scene, cosmopolitan culture, and diversity of people. In the s a new generation of late night coffee drinkers emerged. Alongside the nightclub boom of the s and s, locals and visitors to the urban area were presented with an increasingly wide variety of late bedtime entertainment options. Best gay bars in Wellington

New Zealand is home to stunning scenery, wonderful outdoor pursuits and an astounding range of adventure activities. It might not be the most vibrant queer destination in the nature but there endless reasons to visit this astonishing country. Here are some of the best Wellington gay bars to verify out while you’re in town.

Ivy Bar

This stalwart of the Wellington gay scene is always busy on the weekends. In the early evenings, it has more of a lounge feel but once the music starts everything changes and the club vibe kicks in. They contain regular cabaret shows and different theme nights which keep things interesting. They are well-known for their fabulous cocktails and work pretty good tapas too. They’ve also started hosting comedy nights with some of New Zealand’s top comedians featuring on the bill.

S&M’s Cocktail Bar & Lounge

S&M’s is your common gay cocktail bar but what they do, they do really well. It’s popular with the post-work crowd and also with tourists visiting the town. Don’t expect anything too crazy but it’s a great venue to chill with
